I went to the US Open with my colleagues this week which was very fun. In the wee moments when I wasn't trying to figure out how tennis matches are scored, I was thinking about how incredible the athletes were. Who knew the ball went that fast? (Tennis fans knew.) Those players are STRONG.

Ok, I don't find it cute when people pretend not to understand sports, but tennis scoring really is confusing. I would like to play it and/or watch it more, so thank goodness I had this night of introduction before I made a fool of myself around strangers. My very patient coworkers very kindly answered my very annoying questions. Guys, I really always thought that they were saying "lub," but they're saying "love."

In addition to watching the svelte athletes at the US Open whilst I stuffed my face with Italian sausage, I've also felt a nudge to eat healthier foods after hearing all my dearest friends talk about doubling down on their fitness and nutrition routines. Having kale and quinoa FOMO, plus seeing Serena be awesome made me feel like I should maybe stop eating pain au chocolat and cake every morning. So I used up the rest of the (billions) of berries in our fridge and made these smoothie bowls! I put them in bowls cause smoothie bowls are very on-trend and I don't believe in drinking breakfast. They were tasty and nutritious.

And then the next day I had a donut on my way to work... Give me strength to keep up with the healthy breakfasts, oh eyebrows of Pete Sampras! Amen.

Berry Smoothie Bowls

  • 1 ripe, frozen banana
  • 3/4 cup blueberries
  • 1/2 cup blackberries
  • 1/2 cup raspberries
  • 1/2 cup milk (I used whole milk, but soy or almond milk would be great)
  • 3/4 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup granola
  • 2 Tbsp coconut flakes

Cooking Directions

  1. Combine banana, berries, milk and Greek yogurt in a blender. Blend!
  2. Pour antioxidant-rich and super thick smoothie into two bowls. Top each with half of the granola and half of the coconut flakes.
