Raw Squash Ribbon Salad with Balsamic Glazed Chicken

I write to you from my couch where I've spent most of the weekend watching the new Justin Bieber video (is it too late now to say sorr-yy?) and my new favorite Korean drama. Oh, and I also have a new found love for Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine. I saw On Your Feet, the Gloria Estefan musical and I can't hear 1-2-3 enough times. So, yes, my weekend was 1-2-3, Justin Bieber, 로맨스가 필요해, repeat!

Oatmeal Creme Pies

My mom made killer brown bag lunches when I was growing up which included grape jelly and smooth peanut butter sandwiches on white bread that got squished under my juice box so much that the jelly seeped through the Wonder Bread and, looking back, that's basically like eating a pastry for lunch, but my mom knew I liked PBJ so she offset the sugar with celery sticks and baby carrots.

Cake Truffles

I've been home for four days and I'm feeling pretty crazy. On Friday all of my colleagues came over for a Queens offsite. We worked and had meetings in my living room, played Scattergories and ate way too many Cheez-Its. Then everyone left and that HUMONGOUS thunder storm rolled in and I was very happy to stay home that night and sip my boxed wine.

Chocolate Maple Cereal Crunch Cake

Tons of people are standing beneath my window right now, watching the blood moon eclipse from the sidewalk. I stepped out to walk the dogs and took a peak at the very gorgeous celestial event. And then Dan started talking about the sun exploding and I was just like nope nope nope nope nope bye.

Savory Yogurt

My birthday was sooo great! To all of you who wished me a happy day filled with treats, things came true in a big way. Is it possible that you may have gone overboard? I've never felt so loved or stuffed on a birthday and I'm still feeling like I'm not worthy!

Vegan Broccoli and Bulgur Lunch Bowls

Tomorrow is my birthday, so I should be talking about cake but here I go talking about vegan bulgur bowls instead. I didn't have time to bake a cake this weekend because my lovely mother came for a semi-surprise visit so instead of baking, we did fun things like go for long walks through Prospect Park. (I did have time to make a big ol' batch of banana pudding though and it was deeeeelish. More on that soon.)

Chestnut Choux

This summer I developed an obsession with choux pastries, which--whatever. Next summer, just remind me to fixate on something that requires less heat. Ice cream, perhaps. My oven was on for most of July while I beat tons of eggs into a sticky batter, piped out lil choux cuties (popping a couple of crappy pastry bags in the process) and blasted them in the oven to get them to puff.
