Jacques went to a tennis match last week and you're just like "oh, that's great! Red clay courts in Paris, you say? My favorite color is purple and I am from New York. My name is Hillary. I am 26-years-old."
We spent the night in the emergency vet because my poor Jelly got in a little fight with another dog on his walk last night. Some wounds on his ear and face would not stop bleeding, so I called up Rich & Can to ask if we could borrow their car and then off to the 24-hour animal hospital in Forest Hills we went.
Hello from New York City, where it's super cold, just the way I like it. I think it got down to 19 degrees yesterday? Meaning I wear two pairs of pants, a parka, and a hat at almost all times. I sleep with an extra duvet and ointment slathered all over her body to rejuvenate my dried out skin. I eat all the cheese in the fridge for emotional reasons, but the added blubber comes in handy.
Happy New Year! How did you spend your NYE? While I generally spend too much time at home doing homebody things, I actually made it out for some ringing-in-2016 festivities. Me, Can, Rich, and Danny ate at Le Fanfare in Greenpoint where we were the loudest ones (by far), telling corny jokes, singing along to jazz songs we didn't know, and eating way too much squid ink pasta.
I've been "working at home" since Christmas Eve and so has Dan meaning that I have had no reason to leave my house other than to walk the dogs. We have Christmas leftovers to last a lifetime, my crappy internet just got seriously upgraded, and Candice lives like two blocks away for when I need to interact with other humans. As a result I have not not worn yoga pants and/or pajamas for 6 days straight.
Hope you all had a merry Christmas! I did; got a bunch of presents from my family that were marvelous and then I bought a bunch of presents for myself (oops) including shoes, fancy sprinkles (more on that soon), and star-shaped mini cake molds!
Important life update: I've found a hair stylist that I love. It's been YEARS since my man Peter moved away and ever since my bangs have been a crazy mess. But today Si fixed it all and it's the first haircut I've had in a very long time that didn't prompt me to try and "fix" my own hair to horrifying results.
This weekend included lots of hauling out the holly, putting up the tree, decking the halls again nooow. Or, non-Mame words, going to Home Depot and buying a little tree, followed by raiding Candice's Christmas stash for ornaments, tinsel, and string lights. Plus, I took a little trip to Flying Tiger to buy some candles to boost the hygge in my Queens apartment.
My mom asked me if I was pregnant this Thanksgiving (I'm not) because I cried uncontrollable happy tears throughout the entire Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I can't help it; the balloons are beautiful. Just kidding, I'm more of a marching band gal.
Happy Thanksgiving Weeeek! It's the most wonderful time of the year and I cannot WAIT to head up to see my family in Buffalo on Wednesday. I get to see my red-headed niece and nephew, my lovely mother and my yoga-tastic big sister who is giving us a free family class.
I'm leaving in an hour to get on a plane to Belgium and I haven't finished packing nor am I entirely sure where my passport is. Instead I'm gonna just keep on blah-blah-blogging until the last possible second because, I thrive on deadlines and really there are only so many places you can put a passport in a small New York City apartment, so it's fiiiine.
Welp, it's 8PM on Halloween. I've had my hair set in pin curls all day so that I can pull off some kind of 1940s housewifey look for a party I'm going to, but I just realized that I URGENTLY need to be Janet Jackson in the "Miss You Much" video, aka I need to learn that choreo *immediately* and do it all over New York City tonight.
