Hope you all had a merry Christmas! I did; got a bunch of presents from my family that were marvelous and then I bought a bunch of presents for myself (oops) including shoes, fancy sprinkles (more on that soon), and star-shaped mini cake molds!

Important life update: I've found a hair stylist that I love. It's been YEARS since my man Peter moved away and ever since my bangs have been a crazy mess. But today Si fixed it all and it's the first haircut I've had in a very long time that didn't prompt me to try and "fix" my own hair to horrifying results.
I spent Thanksgiving up in Buffalo with my mom, my sisters, and my adorable niece and nephew. It was suuuper fun, but I got into the habit of tiptoeing around quietly when the kiddos went to sleep and now I'm on a 5-year-old's sleeping schedule. It's 9PM right now and I can barely keep my eyes open. Maybe this will mean that I can wake up in time to get to the gym tomorrow morning, though--fingers crossed!
Happy Thanksgiving Weeeek! It's the most wonderful time of the year and I cannot WAIT to head up to see my family in Buffalo on Wednesday. I get to see my red-headed niece and nephew, my lovely mother and my yoga-tastic big sister who is giving us a free family class.
I'm leaving in an hour to get on a plane to Belgium and I haven't finished packing nor am I entirely sure where my passport is. Instead I'm gonna just keep on blah-blah-blogging until the last possible second because, I thrive on deadlines and really there are only so many places you can put a passport in a small New York City apartment, so it's fiiiine.
My mom made killer brown bag lunches when I was growing up which included grape jelly and smooth peanut butter sandwiches on white bread that got squished under my juice box so much that the jelly seeped through the Wonder Bread and, looking back, that's basically like eating a pastry for lunch, but my mom knew I liked PBJ so she offset the sugar with celery sticks and baby carrots.
I've been home for four days and I'm feeling pretty crazy. On Friday all of my colleagues came over for a Queens offsite. We worked and had meetings in my living room, played Scattergories and ate way too many Cheez-Its. Then everyone left and that HUMONGOUS thunder storm rolled in and I was very happy to stay home that night and sip my boxed wine.
I recently got nominated for a Liebster Award by a pal at A Saucy Kitchen, how cool is that? Bloggers nominate each other for the award, usually it's a sort of pay it forward type type thing among up-and-comers. Once you win, you answer a few questions about your site and then nominate some more folks! See all that below!
Today rocked. Dan's been busy with work stuff, which granted me lots of alone time. I forget how much I love to be totally on my own, sometimes. I can take a shower without having to check if somebody else needs the bathroom or I can blast "Cake By the Ocean" on repeat while I spend all morning making an apple tart in my pajamas.
Tons of people are standing beneath my window right now, watching the blood moon eclipse from the sidewalk. I stepped out to walk the dogs and took a peak at the very gorgeous celestial event. And then Dan started talking about the sun exploding and I was just like nope nope nope nope nope bye.
This summer I developed an obsession with choux pastries, which--whatever. Next summer, just remind me to fixate on something that requires less heat. Ice cream, perhaps. My oven was on for most of July while I beat tons of eggs into a sticky batter, piped out lil choux cuties (popping a couple of crappy pastry bags in the process) and blasted them in the oven to get them to puff.
Me, Can, Dan and Rich... and all of the dogs... are currently up in the Catskills for a little Labor Day getaway. We've been hiking, grilling lots of food, and playing Mad Libs. Gotta say, I'm basically up here living my same life as always, but cooking and watching Seinfeld in the country is like 80% more relaxing than cooking and watching Seinfeld in Queens.
