Sour Cherry Cobbler

Happy weekend o' the Fourth! I've been busy as heck with summery things like beach plans and time at the dog park. Yesterday was the sunniest, most beautiful day so Danny and I took the doggies on a long walk through Queens. Jelly, in true labrador fashion, found a huge fountain in front of the Queens courthouse and hopped in for a swim. Still kicking myself that I didn't capture that on camera.

Braised Short Ribs with Creamy Polenta

I'm back, baby! Unfortunately I had to take a break from blogging for the past few weeks because of some family happenings. We lost my beloved grandfather a couple weeks ago; he was 84-years-old. As sad as it was to lose him, those events always have a weird bright side. He's at peace after a tough sickness, plus I got to reconnect with lots of family and learn things about my grandfather I hadn't known before.

Mini Cardamom Blackberry Pavlovas

I'm hoooome! This month was a whirlwind of travel that went out with a bang, meaning drunken karaoke on Friday night that had me completely bedridden all day on Saturday. But I enjoyed every second of not having to go anywhere; you forget what a homebody you are until you've spent three weeks not sitting on your couch watching the same Gilmore Girls episode for the zillionth time.

Cheesy Stuffed Meatballs

I rolled back into NYC at around 6AM this morning after a few days in Salt Lake City for the Everything Food Conference. It was a super fun time where I got to talk blogging, try out new coffee shops, sing karaoke with friends (remember this song!?!?! I hadn't, but I'm so happy I've been reminded.), learn about SLC's fascinating liquor laws ~~from the inside~~, and watched the entire city of Salt Lake lose power from the window of our Airbnb meaning Yuni and I needed to finish our game of Battleship by candlelight. He kicked my butt.

Eggplant Parmesan with Hard-Boiled Eggs

I returned late last night from a loverly trip to Nashville. I spent lots of fun time with my mamma, uncle, aunt, and beloved cousins. Aside from the family mumbo jumbo, though, I also ate deeeelicious things like HOT CHICKEN and biscuits and, kind of surprisingly, a really tasty kimchi salad? More on that at a later date.

Spam Musubi

What a marvelous weekend! I had guests in and out the whole time, which I love (especially when they eat all of the carrot tahini muffins I bake for them). Danny's home now. I bought some awesome new sheets and a new vacuum. I learned how to spell "vacuum"--one c, two u's. Plus I did lots of fun activities and didn't hate them! I'm that flavor of human who contemplates cancelling all plans at the last minute because the thought of leaving my home fills me with dread on some days. Particularly when the 7 train completely BLOWS like it did this week.

Grapefruit Cake

Just got home from a 75-minute yoga class that was made up of, like, fifty percent head stands (which I can't do, but I really tried). Now I'm eating cold pizza and Cherry Garcia. Because what is a human woman but a bundle of paradoxes waiting to be untangled?

Cherry Chocolate Bread Pudding

Hey, what's up, hello! I'm sitting on my couch while Chloe and Thomas cook me crêpres... how very French. They are both visiting while they prep for their three-month cycling trip across the United States. Me and Dan are being awkward hosts, showing them clips of Pierre Escargot (which is incomprehensible to French-speakers, btw), and shouting "zut alors!" and "chin chin!" when we clink our glasses of bordeaux together.

White Chocolate Matcha Rugelach

Turns out I can't make hamantaschen. I've tried so many times, asked experts for recipes, and tried again. But after the gooey, messy attempt that was this year's Purim cookies, I think I'm officially giving up for the time being. I made my dough and followed the rules and let it rest in the fridge overnight. Once I shaped my cooked and stuck em in the oven.... they just pooped out their filling and smooshed all over the place. Ugh!
